This book is designed with application in mind. Resiliency is not something to simply know about but is rather something to pursue and practice. Being able to bounce back from adverse situations, function competently in the midst of stress, and to thrive during tough times is extraordinary, but not unattainable. The content and suggested practices in these pages are informed by over one hundred peer-reviewed academic journal articles, resources, and books. These resources span the historical construction of the concept, the current understanding of resiliency, and the evidence-based factors that contribute to the phenomenon. My hope is that this little resource will be put to use and contribute to your resiliency, as well as that of those closest to you. If we pursue it, are willing to put in some time and effort, and practice these principles, we can increase our resilience, get closer to our optimal level of functioning, and flourish.
